Summer is here again, the temperature is up in the 30’s this week and the Gingin Pool has been open for a few weeks now. Ben & I have been swimming some laps and I have managed to keep up with him till this week but two days away from the pool and Ben takes the lead 230 to my sad 160. It is supposed to get to 39 on Monday so I need to get to the pool early. We got the family pass again this year and the kids have a great time in the water. Séan is turning into ‘the man from Atlantis’.

Fran Hanni is the pool manager and does a great job. Thanks Fran!

Every time I complete the process of winding a new warp (for those that don’t know: the warp is the length threads of a weave that get threaded through the heddles of a weaving loom when woven across (weft) create a woven fabric) I celebrate! Because standing for a few hours winding, then counting and re-counting to several hundreds, can only be celebrated with a glass of wine!
‘Yeah! brother, pour the wine!’
I am looking forward to my next project of ’crackle weave in double weave’ . The warp is being beamed on my weavebird loom tomorrow with Annalise my year 10 work experience student.

Today the boys did their thing & Lexie and I had a girlie day! We went to Isabell’s 4th Birthday party. Lexie had 3 changes of outfits before she decided on a pink plad summer dress that Joc had bought her in Bali. The kids had a great time and Bella was a great party host and they played lots of party games.

This evening the Treasure family have a few friends call to show us their new costumes they got for Halloween the girls called first, Charm, Chelsea & Courtney were accompanied by ‘wolverine’ AKA Josh.
Later, the boys called, Mitchell and his mates. I wish they had called earlier because the kids were in bed & they couldn’t sing as loud as they wanted to! I made all the kids sing or preform something before they get lollies!

Margaret Dobera from Gingin Western Australia is the artist that painted this wonderful reproduction of a photo she found in the newspaper. Margaret is an amazingly artistic woman, who paints, draws, quilts and who today produced two wonderful woven wall hangings she wove over 25 years ago.
Margaret thought I might be interested in her weaving attempts, so she brought them in to our painting class to show & tell!
Margaret had attended a weaving workshop in Canarvon, Western Australia over 25 years ago. It was her first time weaving, and she produced 2 beautiful wall hangings, which have been rolled up and stored in a ‘bag’ for the past 25 years or so! My response was….hang them on a wall & please ‘will’ these wall hangings to me.
This very contemporary style wall hanging was woven with cotton and unspun fleece using wattle seed pods and banana leaves of varying thickness in the weft. Even though this wall hanging has been in storage for the past 20-30 years, it would look great hanging in a modern home today! The beauty of weaving is it lasts decades and beyond.
The 2nd woven piece could also have been woven yesterday! I was so impressed & amazed with Margaret’s work it got me thinking….. If Margaret wrapped up these beautiful pieces for over 25 years, what other ‘TREASURES’ are buried in our storage? Air them, & let others view them. Please.
